All Timber Doors Internal and External Supplied Installed and Finished
From the very start of the business we were involved in installing many non standard sized timber doors. The doors were often exposed completely to the elements. Many older doors being replaced were 20+ years old. A commonly raised point by our clients, can you provide a door which will last a similar time as the old door when exposed to the weather.
From these discussions and observations of how and why doors had failed we began experimenting and testing materials and coatings. All coatings and materials that we use today to prepare the doors have been selected based on this testing method. All doors are prepared meticulously with the aim to provide a product which will be lasting.
We use Blockboard doors primarily.
These two steps provide the basis for the protection of the door long term by locking out moisture ingress to the timber core of the door. Allowing us to ensure the integrity of the door in the most demanding of environments.
The installation of the door and all locks and fitting are provided by an experienced door carpenter. Any issues post installation are resolved promptly.
After the initial discussion a site visit will be organised. The installer when visiting will discuss any site specific issues. Measurements are then taken and a formal quote provided.
All external doors are cut to size from a solid blockboard core door blank. A blockboard door is a stable solid laminated timber panel. The blockboard door skin can be either hardboard with a duracoat resin coating or paint grade plywood. The door blank then has a hardwood (tassie oak) 18mm thick edge strip glued around the perimeter of the new door.
Once edged the entire door is coated with a marine grade oil based polyurethane sealer. The product we use has been arrived at via extensive testing. It provides for long term protection of the door from moisture ingress.
The door is then coated with a high quality advanced acrylic resin. A water based primer sealer and undercoat. This product has been selected for maximum adhesion to the polyurethane sealer. It forms a secondary sealer barrier and provides for a primer and undercoat for the final top coat.
Doors are finished with Dulux weathershield. Typically 3-4 coats of weathershield are applied during preparation. A final coat is then applied on the day of the install. Total preperation time is spread over 5 days to allow all coatings to cure.
The new door will be installed by an experienced and qualified door carpenter. After all door hardware is fitted a final coat of Dulux weathershield is applied. It is with this process we can stand fully behind the long term durability of the door even in the most demanding of environment.
